That's exactly what the diagnostic determines — many 'dead' MacBooks are just a failed battery, SMC issue, or charging fault, which is far cheaper than board work. We confirm the real cause before you pay.
Usually not — a chime means the board is alive. It's typically a backlight, display-cable (flexgate), or GPU fault, all repairable at component level rather than replacing the whole display or board.
For most power-on faults your data is untouched, and even for board repairs our chip-level approach preserves the storage. On older MacBooks the SSD is removable so we can recover data separately if needed.
