How to know it's the MacBook screen
MacBook screen faults show up visually — cracked glass, backlight failure, vertical lines, or image retention. These six patterns all point at the display rather than the GPU, cable, or logic board.
Cracked glass or shattered LCD — image still visible underneath
Most common: impact or pressure damage. The LCD might still work (you can see the desktop through the cracks), or the liquid crystal layer has bled. Either way, the panel needs replacement.
Backlight on, but no image — just a dim glow
LCD panel or display cable failure. Shine a torch at the Apple logo — if you can faintly see the desktop, the backlight works but the panel doesn't. If nothing appears, it's a backlight or cable issue.
Vertical or horizontal lines across the screen
Display cable loose (flex-gate on 2016–2019 13/15 Pro), or failing LCD panel. Lines that move when you tilt the lid are cable; lines that stay in the same position are panel. Both repairable.
Pink tint, yellow edges, or colour shift
Anti-reflective coating delamination (2015–2017 Retina era) or failing LCD polariser. Apple had a free replacement programme for the coating issue — if that window closed, we can strip the coating or replace the panel.
Dead pixels, stuck pixels, or image retention
Pixel-level LCD failure. One or two dead pixels might be tolerable; clusters or stuck-on pixels justify replacement. Image retention ('ghosting' of previous content) is end-of-life LCD burn-in.
Screen flickers, dims randomly, or won't wake from sleep
Backlight inverter failure (Intel-era), loose display cable, or True Tone sensor fault. Flicker that happens only at certain brightness levels is inverter; flicker that happens at all brightness is cable or panel.

4Component-level swap
Lid opened, LCD panel removed. For Retina models, LOCA lamination in a vacuum chamber (no bubbles, no dust). For mini-LED 14/16 Pro, backlight replacement if that's the fault. Anti-reflective coating preserved or restored. Lid, hinges, camera all original — only the failed component changes.
5Test, calibrate, return
Backlight uniformity test, pixel check, colour calibration. macOS reports the display correctly on first boot. 1-year warranty paperwork. Return courier or walk-out.

Apple ships the screen as a complete display assembly — LCD + lid + hinges + camera + cables all glued together. AASPs are required to replace the entire assembly rather than the panel alone, which is the engineering-correct approach for an authorised repair but triples the cost. Independent specialists like iTweak do component-level repair: Retina-quality LCD panel swap, original lid / hinges / camera kept, proper lamination, 1-year warranty. Most MacBook owners outside Apple coverage choose the independent route.
Every MacBook Air and MacBook Pro — Intel-era (2008–2020) and Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4). The hardware differs across generations (Retina lamination, mini-LED backlight on 14/16 Pro, flex-gate cables on 2016–2019 models), but we have the lamination equipment and experience for all of them.
For non-Retina MacBooks (2012 and earlier), yes — the glass is a separate layer. For Retina MacBooks (2012+), the glass and LCD are laminated together — if the glass is cracked, the LCD almost always needs replacement too. We'll diagnose on bench and quote accordingly.

If your MacBook is still under Apple's standard 1-year warranty or AppleCare+, a third-party screen replacement (including ours) voids it for hardware claims. We recommend AASP for in-warranty MacBooks. For out-of-warranty MacBooks, our Retina-quality panel + 1-year iTweak warranty is the value choice.
