How to know it's the MacBook battery
macOS gives you direct read-out of battery health. These six signs all point at the cell rather than the charger, brick, or logic board.
macOS says 'Service Recommended' or 'Replace Soon'
System Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Apple's own diagnostic flagging the cell for replacement. This is the most reliable indicator — believe it.
Cycle count past Apple's spec
Most MacBooks are rated to 1,000 cycles. Once you cross it, capacity drops fast. Check via the battery health menu or System Information → Power.
Battery drops 30%+ overnight in clamshell mode
Closed lid, plugged into power adapter only briefly — a healthy MacBook loses 2–5% over 12 hours. Loss above 10% is end-of-life voltage collapse.
Won't run on battery — shuts off the moment you unplug

AASP top-case cost, M-series, swollen cells, AppleCare, warranty — the MacBook battery questions our techs hear weekly.
Apple ships the battery glued to the top case — the chassis that also holds the keyboard and trackpad. AASPs are required to replace the entire top case assembly rather than the cells alone, which is the engineering-correct approach for an authorised repair but doubles the cost. Independent specialists like iTweak do a cell-only swap: same Apple-spec cells, original keyboard / trackpad / top case kept, 1-year warranty. Most MacBook owners outside Apple coverage choose the independent route.
Every MacBook Air and MacBook Pro — Intel-era (2008–2020) and Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4). The hardware differs across generations (some retina-era models have the worst battery adhesive, M-series are easier), but we have the tooling and experience for all of them.

No — battery replacement is a non-data-affecting repair. Your macOS install, files, apps, and settings are preserved. We recommend a Time Machine backup as a precaution before any device repair, but no part of the battery swap touches the SSD or RAM.
If your MacBook is still under Apple's standard 1-year warranty or AppleCare+, a third-party battery replacement (including ours) voids it for hardware claims. We recommend AASP for in-warranty MacBooks. For out-of-warranty MacBooks, our Apple-spec cell + 1-year iTweak warranty is the value choice.
