iPhone motherboard repair at iTweak — board-level technician work

Get an exact motherboard repair quote

Motherboard repair pricing varies enough that a quote upfront would be guesswork. Share your iPhone model and a technician calls back with the exact price — no obligation, no spam.

Talk to us first

Tell us your model — we’ll quote the exact cost.

Drop your number and a technician calls back within business hours with the exact price for your iPhone. No obligation, no marketing follow-ups.

What affects the quote

  • Single failed IC vs multi-IC damage vs full-board replacement
  • Liquid corrosion extent — we trace each affected component
  • Whether your data needs to be preserved (chip-level repair preserves; board swap doesn't)
  • Whether the issue is from a previous DIY attempt (often recoverable)
If our board team can't fix it, you don't pay for the repair attempt. Diagnostic time is on us.

When the motherboard is the suspect

Logic-board faults masquerade as other faults — won't turn on, won't charge, no service, screen dead. We diagnose first so you're not paying for a battery swap that doesn't fix anything.

  • iPhone won't turn on (even when plugged in)

Battery checks out, charger checks out, nothing on screen. The power-management IC (Tristar) or the main SoC is the likely culprit. Board-level only.

  • Boot loop — Apple logo, then off, then Apple logo again

Repeating restart cycles usually mean a failing NAND chip, the audio IC, or a damaged Touch IC. Software resets won't help. Schematic diagnosis needed.

  • No service / no SIM after a water spill

Liquid corrosion on the baseband IC or its surrounding components kills cellular. SIM tray reads as empty even when a working SIM is inserted.

  • Won't charge / drains fast even with a new battery

If a battery replacement didn't fix the charging problem, the charging IC on the logic board is leaking current. Common after a deep water immersion.

  • Random shutdowns at any charge level

Especially after a drop. The PMIC (power-management IC) loses contact with the board through cracked solder joints. Reflow or replacement needed.

  • Recovery mode loops, can't restore via iTunes/Finder

Error codes like 4013, 4014, 9, 14, 21 in iTunes usually indicate a logic-board hardware issue, not software. We trace which IC is failing.

  • Damaged after attempted DIY repair

Bent connectors, ripped flex cables, stripped screws, micro-shorts from misplaced screws — we see this weekly. Often recoverable at the board level.

Why iTweak

Worried about losing your data, paying for a 'diagnostic' that fixes nothing, or being told your iPhone is unrepairable?

Board-level (Level-4) repair is what most shops outsource — and many tell customers their device is dead just to upsell a new one. iTweak's been doing micro-soldering and schematic-led repair in-house since 2012. We open the iPhone, trace the actual fault on the schematic, and quote the real fix in writing. If your data is intact pre-repair, it stays intact. If we can't fix it, you don't pay for the repair attempt.

  • In-house board technicians since 2012
  • Schematic-led diagnosis
  • Data preserved
  • Money-back if unrepaired

What iTweak does — and what most shops can't

Board-level repair is a different discipline from part replacement. The skills, tools, and time required mean most repair shops don't offer it at all.

How board-level repair works

Different from part-swap repairs — diagnosis can take 3–5 days. We don't rush. The actual repair, once you approve the quote, is typically 1 day.

  1. Technician running an initial diagnostic on an iPhone with diagnostic monitor visible
    1

    Initial diagnostic

Phonecheck identifies what's failing. If it's a part, we say so and quote the swap. If it's the board, we open the device for a Level-4 diagnostic.

  2. iPhone open on the bench with the logic board exposed under a microscope
    2

Open the device and inspect the board

Visual + thermal-camera inspection. Liquid damage corrosion, burn marks, cracked solder joints, broken capacitors — all visible at the right magnification.

  3. Technician probing a logic board with a multimeter, schematic visible on screen
    3

    Schematic-led trace

Using the iPhone's Apple-internal schematic, we follow the power, data, or signal trace to the failing IC. This is the step that takes 3–5 days — most cases involve multiple measurements at different points on the board.

  4. Micro-soldering work on an iPhone logic board with a stencil and rework station
    4

    Approve quote, then repair

Once we know the exact fix, we write the quote and call you. After approval: micro-soldering replaces the failed IC or chip; reflow re-seats cracked joints. Most repairs land in a single working day.

  5. Reassembled iPhone passing a full diagnostic with green-tick screen visible
    5

    Reassemble, test, return

Full Phonecheck pass, all subsystems exercised. Device boots, stays booted, charges, holds signal. Your data, photos, Apple ID — all intact.

FAQ

Cost, time, data preservation, IMEI — the questions our board team hears daily.

  • Motherboard repair pricing varies enormously — the same external symptom can be a single-IC replacement on the smaller end or a multi-chip job on the larger end, depending on what the schematic-led diagnosis finds. We take 3–5 days to diagnose properly, then send you a written quote with the exact cost. You only approve and pay for the actual fix; the diagnostic itself is included.

  • Yes — and most repair shops will tell you it can't because they don't have board-level skills. Motherboard repair is a Level-4 discipline involving micro-soldering, schematic-led tracing, and chip-level rework. iTweak has been doing it in-house since 2012, on every iPhone from iPhone 5 to iPhone 16 Pro Max.

  • Most common causes: liquid spills (corrosion on the baseband or PMIC), drops (cracked solder joints, especially the PMIC), heat damage (the audio IC and NAND chip fail under repeated overheating), and DIY repair gone wrong (misplaced screws shorting against the board, ripped connectors, ESD damage). Each has a different repair path.

  • No, in 95%+ of cases. Board-level repair is non-data-affecting — we're working on the components around the NAND chip, not the NAND itself. If the NAND chip is specifically what's failing (rare), we'll tell you upfront and discuss whether NAND-to-NAND data transfer is possible. We never touch your photos, apps, or accounts as part of the repair.

  • Only if we replace the entire logic board (which we rarely do — chip-level repair preserves the original board). If we DO need to swap boards, yes the IMEI changes — every motherboard has its own unique IMEI. We disclose this clearly in the quote so you can decide.

  • Diagnosis: 3–5 days. We don't rush this — most board issues require multiple measurement passes to isolate the failing component. After you approve the written quote, the actual repair is typically 1 working day. So the full round-trip is usually 5–7 days from drop-off to return.

  • If our board team can't fix the issue, you don't pay for the repair attempt. We absorb the diagnostic time. This is part of our money-back guarantee — we'd rather tell you honestly than charge for an unsuccessful repair. 6-month warranty applies once we DO fix it.

  • Board-level repair requires schematic-led tracing — finding the exact failing IC out of hundreds on the logic board. That's measurement-intensive work that can't be rushed. Other repairs (screen, battery, port) are component swaps — predictable parts, predictable time. Motherboard is detective work.
