Signs of iPhone water damage
Water damage isn't always immediate. Sometimes the iPhone works fine for days, then suddenly fails as corrosion spreads on the logic board. Six signs to watch for.
Won't turn on at all
Iliquid shorted the power-management IC or the main SoC. Won't respond to charger or buttons. Board-level repair is the only path back.
Won't charge (even with a new battery)
The charging IC on the logic board has corroded. Battery replacement won't fix this — we need to clean or replace the charging IC.
No cellular signal / no SIM
Salt corrosion on the baseband IC kills cellular reception. SIM tray reads empty even with a working SIM. Common after a beach day.
Screen flickering, lines, or dead spots
Display flex corrosion or display-driver IC damage. Sometimes the screen is fine and only the connector has corroded — easy fix. Sometimes the IC needs replacement.
Touch screen unresponsive
Touch IC liquid damage. The display might look fine but no taps register. Board-level repair or touch-flex replacement.
iPhone heating up at idle
Internal short circuit from corroded components draining current. Stop using it — keep going and you risk the battery and the rest of the board.

How board-level water damage recovery works
Different from a part-swap repair. Diagnosis takes 3–5 days because corrosion can be in multiple components and each one needs to be traced. Once the quote is approved, repair typically lands in 1–2 days.
1Don't power on — bring it to us
If the iPhone is currently off, leave it off. If it's on, power it down. Bring it to iTweak as soon as possible — every hour of power-on time = more corrosion.
2Open and clean
We open the device, remove the battery, and clean every component with isopropyl alcohol and ultrasonic baths. This alone resolves 30% of liquid-damage cases — sometimes the corrosion hasn't spread to the ICs yet.
3Schematic-led diagnostic
Once dry and clean, we run a Phonecheck pass and trace every failing subsystem on the schematic. Power, signal, audio, touch, display — each rail measured individually. This is the 3–5 day step.

No — this is one of the biggest myths in phone repair. Rice draws moisture slowly and unevenly, often leaving residue inside the device. Silica gel packets (the ones that come with new electronics, shoes, vitamins) are much better. Best option: bring it to us — we have ultrasonic baths and isopropyl alcohol that remove water and salt residue properly.
Absolutely not. Charging a wet iPhone forces current through any liquid bridges between components — that's how clean iPhones turn into board-replacement jobs. Power it off, dry the outside, and bring it to us before charging.
Yes — in most cases. iTweak's board team has been doing water-damage recovery since 2012. The earlier we see the iPhone after a spill, the higher the recovery rate. After 24+ hours of corrosion progression, more components are usually affected, but even then most iPhones can be saved with chip-level repair.
In most cases, no — our chip-level approach preserves the NAND storage chip (where your photos, apps, and accounts live). We only need to replace the components that corroded, not the storage. If the NAND chip itself is damaged (rare), we discuss data-recovery options before proceeding.
Partially. The screen and back-glass adhesive seals are replaced as part of the reassembly. However, IP ratings degrade after any repair — Apple's spec assumes factory-sealed components. We can restore the seal, but treat the iPhone as splash-resistant rather than IP-68 going forward.
