Often, yes. Sweat salts, dust or sand in the crown gap cause many 'stuck' and 'ghost-scroll' faults — a proper clean fixes it without a new part. If the encoder itself has failed, we replace the crown assembly. The free diagnostic tells us which.
We reseal with Apple-spec adhesive and restore splash and shower resistance, but as with any third-party repair the original IP rating no longer formally applies — we tell every customer not to swim or dive afterwards.
