Rice doesn't work. Time is critical — corrosion spreads every hour the iPad sits uncleaned.
Water damage has three phases — immediate (0–24 hours): liquid shorting circuits; corrosion (24–72 hours): oxidation begins, components start failing; permanent (72+ hours): corrosion irreversible, data loss risk. "Put it in rice" does nothing for internal liquid — it needs ultrasonic cleaning to remove residue before oxidation sets in. Common iPad water damage symptoms and what they mean
Water damage rarely shows uniform symptoms — different components fail at different rates. Match your iPad's behaviour to understand what's corroding internally.
iPad won't turn on after liquid exposure
Could be protective shutdown (recoverable with cleaning) or shorted power IC (needs replacement). Never attempt to power on or charge — brings power to shorted circuits and causes cascading damage. Bring it in immediately.
Screen turns on but touch doesn't work / erratic phantom touches
Water under digitizer or corroded touch controller IC. If caught within 48 hours, ultrasonic cleaning + IC reflow often restores full touch. After 72 hours, touch IC replacement usually needed.
iPad turns on but screen stays black / backlight flickers
Display connector corrosion or backlight driver IC failure. Board-level cleaning + connector re-seating first, IC replacement if cleaning doesn't restore backlight.
Charging port not working after water exposure
Lightning/USB-C port is the most vulnerable entry point. Corrosion on port flex contacts. Ultrasonic cleaning + port replacement restores charging in most cases. Don't attempt to charge — shorts the board.
Battery drains extremely fast or percentage stuck
Water damaged the battery management IC or battery itself is corroded. Battery health reading will show drastically reduced capacity. Both battery and BMS IC might need replacement.
iPad works but intermittent crashes, Wi-Fi dropping, or cellular not connecting
Partial corrosion on logic board — some components work, others don't. Wi-Fi/Bluetooth IC or cellular modem likely corroded. Board-level inspection isolates which ICs need cleaning or replacement.

How we recover water-damaged iPads

1Emergency disassembly and liquid extraction
Power off (if not already), disconnect battery immediately to prevent further shorts. Remove all modular components (battery, cameras, speakers). Inspect for liquid pooling in shielding cans or under ICs.
2Ultrasonic cleaning and isopropyl alcohol bath
Multi-stage ultrasonic bath: first stage removes bulk liquid and debris; second stage with 99% isopropyl alcohol dissolves mineral deposits and oxidation. High-frequency vibration reaches under soldered ICs where corrosion hides.
3Microscope inspection and corrosion mapping
Dry board in low-heat chamber, then inspect every millimeter under stereomicroscope. Map corroded traces, lifted pads, and oxidized IC pins. Flux-clean corroded areas and restore damaged solder joints.
4Component testing and micro-soldering repair
Voltage injection testing identifies shorted power rails. Thermal imaging pinpoints overheating ICs. Replace individual failed components — PMU, audio codec, touch controller, display driver — using micro-soldering. No whole-board swap unless 80%+ of ICs are dead.
5Reassembly, power-on test, and functional validation
Reconnect battery, power on in controlled environment. Test all functions: touch, display, Wi-Fi, cellular, cameras, speakers, charging. If any subsystem still fails, isolate that IC and repeat cleaning/replacement. You only pay for successful recovery.

FAQ
Data safety, cleaning vs repair, warranty coverage, rice myths — the water damage questions our iPad techs hear.
Diagnostic + ultrasonic cleaning: ₹1,500–₹2,500. If cleaning resolves it, that's the total cost. Component-level repair (replacing corroded ICs): ₹5,000–₹15,000 depending on how many ICs are damaged and which ones (PMU, audio, touch, display driver, etc.). We quote after cleaning and inspection. If unrecoverable, you pay only the diagnostic fee.
Power off immediately (if still on), do NOT attempt to charge or turn on. Do NOT put in rice (doesn't remove internal liquid). Bring it to us within 24 hours for ultrasonic cleaning. The faster we clean it, the better the recovery chances. Same-day service available — call ahead.
Data preservation is our priority. If the logic board is recoverable, data stays intact (we don't touch storage). If the board is too corroded, we attempt to transplant the storage chip to a donor board — advanced micro-soldering. Success rate depends on how long it sat uncleaned.
Emergency ultrasonic cleaning: same day if you call ahead. Full recovery (cleaning + component diagnosis + micro-soldering): 2–4 days depending on extent of corrosion. Free FedEx pickup + return: 5–7 day round-trip from anywhere in India (we prioritize water damage in our queue).
Apple and most third-party shops use triggered liquid indicators as an excuse to deny warranty and quote full device replacement. We don't care about the indicators — we assess actual damage. Many iPads with triggered indicators work fine after cleaning.
Possible but harder. After 1–2 weeks, corrosion has spread deep under ICs and into traces. We can still attempt cleaning + component replacement, but success rate drops from 85% (within 48 hours) to 40–60% (after 2 weeks). Always worth attempting before buying a new iPad.
Saltwater is the worst (highly conductive, corrodes fast). Coffee/tea/juice contain sugars that leave sticky residue. Pure water is 'least bad' but still causes shorts. All require professional cleaning — isopropyl alcohol wipe-downs at home don't reach internal residue.
6 months on components we replace (ICs, connectors, flex cables). Corrosion that develops later in areas we didn't repair is not covered (we document exactly what we repaired). If a repaired component fails again, free re-repair.
